Blog 12 - 2025

July 21, 2025

I got a late start this year.

I’ve been doing a mix of projects in the past year. I’ve illustrated books on widowhood, surfing, commercial real estate, trash, senior dating and civics for children. The learning curves for each of these projects has been fun.

I’ve also developed an improv addiction, which started as a small gathering in a studio in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and has gone through several online classes with teachers famous and not so famous and a yearly festival for senior / mature performers on the coast of Maine. I’ve discovered this to be a wonderfully talented and supportive community - when done properly - and the pandemic had the unexpected bonus of connecting me with improvisors all over the world. Besides being fun to play as an adult, the practice helps me listen (something I can always use help with) and improves my joke-writing skills. (I’d make a snarky comment, but that doesn’t fly in improv - good improv.)

Improv is a different creative muscle than cartooning, and learning that difference has helped me improve both skills.

I hope to get a Substck page up and running. You’ll be the first - okay, second, to know.

On another note, Ive given up on Connections - I think they may have jumped the shark. I’m team Wordle for now.

Here’s one of my favorite cartoons this past year, from a book on senior dating.
